British Virgin Island hopping

If the most exotic place you've visited this year, is the carnival in Notting Hill, there's still time to change that! And by leaving your holiday booking so late,  you could nab some very hot deals.

You definitely don't get much hotter than the British Virgin Islands. I was recently invited to a party organised by the BVI tourist board. A mixologist has been especially flown in, to create some delicious but rather worrying sounding Painkiller rum cocktails.

But that wasn’t the only added touch of authenticity – there was also a Caribbean steel band playing tropical tunes and specially imported sand. Feeling a few grains in my hand while listening to the band, I certainly felt I was a world away from London (probably also due to the killer rum in the cocktails)

The British Virgin Islands comprises of 50 islands, so it's the perfect destination if you find the idea of lying on one beach for two weeks coma inducing.

Although it's hardly a cheap and cheerful getaway,  you can get good deals if you’re willing to book to go anytime from now until November. It's the peak of BVI's off season so there are sporadic tropical showers but they come and go so quickly,  you won't notice. The sun shines all year round and temperatures remain in the high 20s Celsius.

BUDGET: Fort Recovery Beachfront Villa & Suites Hotel, Road Town, Tortola.

Road Town, a sheltered harbour located on Tortola, is the capital of the British Virgin Islands and has activities galore, as well as white sand beaches and crystal blue seas.  Tortola which means Turtle Dove,  is a good base for island hopping and it's steeped in rich history; pirates first inhabited the island in the 1700s.

Expedia (020 3564 3904 Expedia.co.uk) offers 7 nights from £1,260 based on 2 adults sharing a Deluxe Suite including return flights from London Heathrow, taxes and fees.

BLOW IT:  Biras Creek, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

Virgin Gorda offers a more relaxed pace of life in paradise and is where you will find BVI's best known landmark The Baths, a stunning beach with hidden caves and pools nestled among giant granite boulders.  Biras Creek is a secluded luxury resort spread over 140 lush acres and only accessible by boat or helicopter.

Caribtours (020 7751 0660: www.caribtours.co.uk) offers 7 nights from £1,899 per person, based on 2 adults sharing a Garden Suite including Breakfast, return scheduled flights, transfers and use of a lounge at Gatwick.
